Alcester Grammar School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head of Art Department to lead our vibrant and creative Arts team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the value of the Arts in education, dedicated to inspiring students, and committed to high achievement through innovative teaching and learning.
About the Role:
As Head of Art, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the Art curriculum, leading a team of dedicated teachers, and ensuring our students continue to excel in Fine Art at both GCSE and A Level. You will develop and implement policies that reflect the school’s ethos of creativity, academic excellence, and student-centred learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, develop, and implement innovative teaching practices that promote creative thinking and independent learning.
- Review and evaluate departmental performance, using data to set targets and drive continuous improvement.
- Inspire and motivate staff, fostering a collaborative environment with a shared vision for high achievement.
- Oversee the performance management of the Art department team, ensuring professional development and high standards in teaching.
- Manage the departmental budget and curriculum development, ensuring resources and teaching techniques are up to date and meet the evolving demands of examinations.
- Ensure high standards of behaviour, student progress, and classroom management.
- Contribute to the broader school community, actively engaging in school priorities and extra-curricular activities.
- Manage Health & Safety protocols within the department and liaise with the examinations officer for accurate student entries.

- At Key Stage 3, we balance knowledge and skills with the creative process, guiding students through more ambitious and self-directed projects as they progress.
- GCSE Fine Art (AQA) and A-Level Fine Art (Edexcel) are popular choices, with students achieving consistently strong results, many going on to study Art at degree level.
