At The Brakenhale School, we are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Head of Department to lead our Art provision and contribute to the continued success of our school.

In this rewarding leadership role, you will work closely with staff to develop an ambitious curriculum, enhance teaching and learning, and create a culture where pupils are motivated to excel and achieve their very best.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher and leader to shape the strategic direction of the department, support and develop colleagues, and foster a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement.

As Head of Department, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring an engaging and ambitious curriculum is delivered effectively, enabling every pupil to achieve their full potential. You will work closely with senior leaders and colleagues across the school to raise standards, share best practice and contribute to the wider success of the school.

Main duties of the role include:

  • Demonstrating a passion for education and a desire to improve the life chances of our students
  • To assist the Deputy and Assistant Headteachers in the development of teaching and learning by contributing to the staff development, induction, ECT and ITT programmes within the department.
  • To support staff to make progress on the schools teaching and learning programme
  • To work with the SLT on the development of consistently good pedagogy across the department
  • To contribute significantly in the development of schemes of work within the department
  • To model best practice in ensuring that lessons are appropriately scaffolded so that all students can make rapid progress.

We are looking for an individual who:

  • Good Hons degree and QTS
  • Willingness to undertake further CPD
  • Able to establish good working relationships with a wide range of people
  • Experience as a subject Head of willing to learn and develop
  • An understanding of exam board specification at Key stage 4 and 5
  • Have the ability and desire to make a significant contribution to the school as a whole
