Head of Computer Science job summary
A rare and exciting opportunity for an ambitious and dynamic teacher of Computer Science to lead and develop a thriving department into its next phase.
Computer Science is a key component of our curriculum and benefits from generously dedicated curriculum time in all year groups. As Head of Computer Science, you will lead a small team of specialist teachers, fostering a collaborative and innovative approach to teaching and learning, ensuring an engaging curriculum across the key stages.
Computer Science is popular at GCSE and A level, with ever-increasing student numbers. Students are encouraged to develop a deep understanding of computational thinking, programming and digital technologies, preparing them for future success in a rapidly evolving digital world. Many of our students go on to specialise in the subject at university or via the apprenticeship route. Our students enthusiastically involve themselves in a wide range of subject-related enrichment and extracurricular opportunities (including our junior and senior programming clubs and Parmiter's Hackathon).
Candidates are warmly invited to visit the school and department before application.
Ofsted (2024) commented that (pupils) “are active participants in their learning and consistently demonstrate high levels of focus … teachers are experts in the subjects they teach … pupils’ conduct and manners are exemplary … any disruption to learning is incredibly rare… staff are extremely positive about the support that they receive from leaders…particularly around their professional development and well-being”.
Parmiter’s coordinates CPD for the Watford Partnership for Teacher Training and offers a robust induction programme. We can offer the successful candidate:
Bespoke CPD to suit individual career goals.
Staff Wellbeing initiatives include an online GP service, Employee Assistance Programme, complimentary use of the on-site Fitness Suite and an on-site subsidised electric vehicle charging point.
A high-quality and well-resourced teaching environment with highly talented and engaged students.
An admission policy prioritising the children of staff (a qualifying period may apply).
Lovely school grounds in leafy surrounds with ample parking.
Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and we may interview before the closing date.
