Job Purpose:

We are seeking an inspiring and dynamic individual to lead our Design Technology department. The successful candidate will be committed to delivering exceptional teaching and learning, raising standards, and ensuring students achieve outstanding academic outcomes. You will work with both staff and students to maintain high expectations, encourage innovation, and develop a forward-thinking approach to the curriculum that equips students with the skills needed for future success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Design Technology department to deliver high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Set and maintain the highest standards of student achievement and conduct, fostering an environment of excellence.
  • Develop a rigorous and engaging curriculum that meets the needs of all learners, preparing them for academic and vocational success.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to implement whole-school initiatives aimed at raising standards and expectations.
  • Inspire and motivate students of all abilities to develop their creativity, problem-solving skills, and passion for Design Technology.
  • Provide guidance, support, and professional development for staff within the department, ensuring effective teaching strategies are shared and implemented.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress and attainment of students, ensuring that all achieve their full potential.
  • Lead extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities within Design Technology to inspire a love for the subject.
  • Maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Person Specification:

  • A proven track record of excellent teaching and learning within Design Technology.
  • A commitment to high standards and the belief that every student can achieve their potential.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire staff and students alike.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing a challenging and innovative curriculum.
  • An understanding of the latest developments in Design Technology and education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive approach to raising standards and securing high achievement.
  • A degree and QTS certificate

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a leadership role within a school environment.
  • Experience of developing successful extracurricular programmes in Design and Technology.
  • Familiarity with working in an academy setting.
