Samuel Ryder Academy - St Albans

Head of Design and Technology

MPS/UPS + TLR1a allowance

Full Time

Start date: January 2027

Samuel Ryder Academy seeks an enthusiastic and inspirational Head of Design and Technology to teach across the age and ability range. This post offers the opportunity to lead the faculty as it continues to grow with new opportunities.

OFSTED inspected the Academy in April 2026 and judged the school as ‘Strong Standard’ in 6 categories and the ‘Expected Standard’ in the remaining 2 categories.

The successful applicant will have a clear vision for the faculty and the strategic leadership skills to deliver improvements. You will be an outstanding practitioner who has the vision, energy and drive to further improve standards of achievement and ensure teaching is of the highest across all key stages.

The Academy has a clear vision and ethos which has led to outstanding results and is the school of choice for local parents. Our specialisms are English and New Technologies, and as an Apple Distinguished School and Regional Training Centre for Apple, we have innovative use of iPad technology across the school. There are excellent facilities for both staff and students.

The Academy is part of Scholars’ Education Trust (SET), an established, cross phase, multi-academy trust formed in 2012.

Diversity: Scholars’ Education Trust is fully committed to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion. We want to attract and retain the very best staff in all areas of the trust, ensuring our staff body reflects the diversity of our students and local community.

You will be provided with a criminal self-declaration form by the school if you are shortlisted for the post. All posts in schools are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. If you are appointed you will be required to have an up to date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate.
