Head of Economics (with additional responsibilities) job summary

As Head of Economics, you will lead and manage the Economics curriculum, ensuring high standards of teaching and achievement, you will develop and implement an engaging, rigorous curriculum at A-Level, monitor student progress and implement strategies to maximise attainment. Your role will also include supporting and developing teaching staff through coaching and performance management and contribute to wider school leadership and strategic planning.

We are looking for a candidate who has proven experience teaching Economics key stage 5, who demonstrates strong leadership and organisational skills, has a track record of delivering excellent student outcomes and is passionate about Economics and committed to inspiring young people

At Pinner High School, our pedagogical approach is based on the principles of Rosenshine. All our lessons begin with a do now activity, aimed at recalling knowledge. In addition, a high proportion of students are categorised as higher ability, we therefore expect appropriate challenge in learning. Learning episodes contain challenge tasks in addition to main activities which support the progression of all students. Students often use green pens to self assess work and teachers use expert subject knowledge for assessment for learning.

Pinner High School opened in September 2016 with 150 Year 7 students. We will admit 180 Year 7 students each year; so having 900 Year 7 – Year 11 students. Our onsite sixth form is now open with a full complement of year groups. Alongside this, there are 12 additional places for students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Pinner High School is located on Beaulieu Drive, HA5 1NB.

Pinner High School is part of The Harrow Academies Trust, a multi-academy trust established by the seven secular high school academies within Harrow. Our high schools, together with Whitmore High School (which is a community school maintained by Harrow Council), have a strong track record of collaboration, including establishing Sixth Forms, the age-of-transfer that saw Year 7 join high school (instead of middle school), academy conversion in 2011, and establishing The Jubilee Academy (an alternative provision free school) in 2013.
