Engineering, Art and Technology Department Information

The Candidate

The Candidate

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, dynamic and motivated Head of Department to lead and further develop our successful Engineering, Art and Technology provision.

Expertise and proven leadership in Engineering are essential. Within your specialist area, you will have a strong understanding of and confidence in delivering an ambitious and engaging curriculum at KS4 and KS5. You will bring the vision, energy and dedication to lead the continued development of the wider curriculum, ensuring that it reflects current practice and research into effective teaching and learning.

As an experienced and inspirational leader, you will be committed to securing the highest possible standards of student learning, achievement, progress, attainment and behaviour. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to identify areas for development, share effective practice and drive continuous improvement across the department. With high expectations for all students, you will be passionate about creating a culture in which students are encouraged and supported to excel, develop their skills and knowledge, and recognise the opportunities available to them through further study.

An important aspect of the role will be to inspire students to develop a genuine passion for Engineering, Art and Technology and to encourage them to progress to relevant KS5 courses and beyond. You will have the vision to develop strong curriculum pathways and ensure that students are well prepared for their next steps in education, training or employment.

The department is a successful and committed team. Outcomes are currently varied. The department benefits from a broad range of experience and expertise, providing an excellent foundation on which to build success. We are looking for a leader who can harness these strengths, develop colleagues and establish an ambitious culture of continuous improvement, with a clear focus on raising standards and securing the best possible outcomes for every student.

At The Pingle Academy, we believe in working hard, being kind and choosing wisely. We are privileged to serve a community where we can make a genuine difference to children’s lives and futures every day. We are looking for an inspirational teacher and leader who shares this commitment; someone who is passionate about young people, believes deeply in their potential and is determined to maximise their opportunities and life chances.

If you are an experienced and ambitious professional who is ready to lead a successful department, inspire colleagues and students, and make a significant contribution to the continued development of our curriculum and outcomes, we would be delighted to hear from you.

We welcome applications from experienced Heads of Department, alongside those ready to take the next steps in developing their career.

The Pingle Academy is a successful and well-respected comprehensive school which became an academy in May 2017 as part of Affinity Learning Partnership. We currently cater for 1429 students aged 11–19 and have been over-subscribed for the past five years. The academy enjoys an excellent reputation.

Our academy is truly inclusive and includes Enhanced Resource Sections for students with mild learning difficulties and students with more complex needs. In addition, we have our own alternative provision, which caters for a small number of students who find mainstream classes challenging. Our staff share responsibility for creating a safe and pleasant place to learn and work and are proud of our efforts to educate and care for all our students, whatever their abilities, to ensure that every student’s potential is fulfilled.

We are proud of our caring and inclusive community, and our values of WORK HARD, BE KIND, CHOOSE WISELY are present in all aspects of academy life.

In 2019, the academy enjoyed its best-ever results both at GCSE and A Level. In October 2021, OFSTED judged the academy as GOOD in all areas.

Our priority is to help parents/carers prepare their children for adult lives in a rapidly changing world. We aim to provide a broad and stimulating curriculum; we set high expectations for work and behaviour, and we encourage students to aspire to these standards with confidence.

We value our staff, ensuring that we look after and care for their wellbeing through professional development, mental health provision and supporting staff with their workload.
