Head of English

As Head of English, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for a successful department, ensuring that teaching and learning is consistently good or better and that all students make strong progress. You will set a clear vision for English, fostering a culture of high expectations, innovation and continuous improvement.

You will lead the design and delivery of a progressive and inclusive curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4 and Post-16, ensuring it meets statutory requirements while engaging and challenging all learners. A key part of the role will be using assessment data effectively to monitor performance, implement targeted interventions and secure excellent outcomes at GCSE and beyond.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding practitioner and a visible leader across the school, committed to promoting high standards of behaviour for learning. You will line manage and develop a team of teachers and support staff, using robust performance management to drive improvement and ensure a strong link between pay and progression.

You will also take responsibility for departmental self-evaluation, strategic planning and resource management, ensuring that financial decisions have a clear impact on student outcomes. In addition, you will champion enrichment and extracurricular opportunities in English, and build strong links with the wider community and local schools to enhance student experiences.
