However, these facts do not really convey the essence of our school. The students of TGGS are history makers of the future and therefore we are committed and passionate about developing them as a whole individual ensuring that they have the -
Best possible academic success
Highest self-esteem to make decisions that lead to happiness
Character skills to get the jobs that they desire
The best advert for the school is the students themselves: they are delightful, articulate and intelligent individuals. More importantly, they are happy and love their school, as shown by the tears on leavers’ day and their commitment to younger students who join the school. Our alumni is strong and adults often come back to the school either to visit and share experience with younger pupils or with the hope of working here – it really is a great place to be.
Further details about the role
A rare opportunity has arisen for a dynamic leader to join a successful and flourishing English department. You will be an outstanding classroom practitioner whose passion and subject knowledge promotes students’ enjoyment of English throughout Key Stage 3 to 5. You will have expertise in teaching across the ability range from Year 7 to Year 13, providing challenge for the most able students as well as ensuring effective support where needed.
With proven leadership ability, you will lead and manage the English team to deliver high quality teaching and learning, maximising student progress.
The English Department at Torquay Girls’ Grammar School is a dynamic and collaborative team. We enjoy working together to design and deliver an exciting curriculum that engages our students and promotes enjoyment of the subject.
Learning in English is active and lively. We encourage students to be independent in their thinking and to communicate their ideas confidently, asking questions, challenging ideas and using modern technology for both research and presentation purposes.
Our aim is to enthuse students through our own passion for English, nurturing both their critical and creative skills. Across all key stages, we provide opportunities that enhance our students’ experience of English; these include creative writing clubs, book groups and outreach work with local primary schools. Additionally, we run theatre trips and offer in-school professional theatre performances so that students can see their set texts ‘come alive’ on the stage.
