Head of Faculty - Science job summary
Are you an ambitious and inspirational Science leader ready to shape an excellent, knowledge-rich curriculum and raise outcomes across a growing faculty? Haven High Academy is seeking a Head of Faculty - Science to provide strategic leadership, develop teaching and learning, and build a culture of high expectations at an important point in the academy’s improvement journey.
Why Haven High?
Haven High Academy has made significant progress. Following the full Ofsted inspection on 7 and 8 July 2026, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector concluded that the academy no longer requires special measures. The report recognises progress in all judgement areas and describes how strengthened, stable leadership has brought about significant improvement.
Ofsted described leaders as “ambitious and determined” and recognised that their work has been impactful. Inspectors highlighted improvements to attendance, behaviour and the curriculum, alongside a staff body united in its determination to improve the school.
The inspection confirmed that safeguarding standards are met and judged personal development and wellbeing to meet the expected standard. Inspectors recognised the academy’s broad personal development programme, careers provision, enrichment opportunities and support for students who are worried or vulnerable.
Students told inspectors that behaviour is much improved. The majority are happier at school than previously and feel safe and well cared for. The report also recognises significant improvement in attendance, including attendance for disadvantaged students being close to the national average and attendance for students with SEND being above the national figure for students with SEND.
“After a turbulent past, the school’s leadership has strengthened and stabilised. This has brought about significant improvements.”
This is an exciting opportunity to join an academy with clear momentum, strong trust support and a shared commitment to securing consistently high-quality teaching and improved outcomes for every student.
As Head of Faculty, you will receive a comprehensive package of professional development, leadership support and opportunities to collaborate across Haven High Academy and Voyage Education Partnership.

You will be supported by a strong pastoral and leadership team that maintains high standards of behaviour and does not tolerate disruption to learning from students. Improve the quality and consistency of teaching through coaching, professional development, quality assurance and collaborative planning
Use assessment and performance information precisely to identify priorities, address gaps in learning and secure improved outcomes for all groups
Ensure that teaching meets the needs of all students, including those with SEND, disadvantaged students and students with gaps in literacy, numeracy or prior scientific knowledge
Develop colleagues, deploy staff and resources effectively, and build leadership capacity within the faculty
Maintain high expectations for behaviour, attendance, independent study and the quality of students’ work
Ensure safe, purposeful practical Science, including effective oversight of laboratories, equipment, risk assessment and statutory health and safety requirements
