Head of Food Technology job summary

George Salter Academy is a friendly, happy and vibrant 11-18 academy, serving a multi-cultural community and we are looking for a motivated and inspiring individual to lead our Food Technology department at George Salter Academy from January 2024.

The role is suitable for both existing Heads of Department and those looking to step into leadership. The successful candidate will actively and positively promote Food Technology across key stages 3, 4 and 5 whilst ensuring the development of teaching practices of others within the department.

The George Salter Food department consists of 2 full time specialist food teachers, 1 full time technician and 3 fully equipped catering rooms. The department have produced excellent results over the last 7 years. KS3 consists of a ½ yearly rotation with weekly double lessons (1hr 40mins) where students develop practical skills through a wide range of multicultural recipes. WJEC Hospitality and Catering is delivered to KS4 students who receive 1 double and 1 single lesson per week. There is a very strong uptake of the subject at GCSE level. WJEC Food Science and Nutrition is also delivered to Post 16 students who receive 3 double lessons per week. The department receives a healthy budget and is well equipped and supported from leadership.
