Head of Geography job summary
We are seeking a self-motivated, creative and inspiring teacher and leader who has experience in curriculum planning and delivery of Geography across Key Stages 3-5. You are an outstanding teacher who is passionate about your subject and able to inspire and motivate students to learn, along with lead other teachers in the delivery of an engaging, appropriate and well-rounded curriculum.
The Academy is looking for someone who has:
• Excellent subject knowledge in Geography;
• A track record of outstanding results at Key Stages 4 and 5;
• A record of growing Geography as a subject within a school;
• The ability to understand and work with assessment data to monitor and intervene as appropriate with student cohorts;
• A passion for Geography with experience in field visits and learning outside the classroom;
• The ability to lead, inspire and hold colleagues to account for high-quality teaching, provision and outcomes within Geography.
Your key responsibilities will include:
• Leading the delivery of all Geography courses across Key Stages 3-5;
• Leading and managing others teaching Geography so they are supported and recognised for their strengths and contributions;
• Being accountable for examination results within Geography;
• Developing and reviewing suitable curriculum for study across all Key Stages;
• Conveying enthusiasm and commitment about teaching and learning, whilst always seeking out opportunities to improve;
• Creating a positive ethos for the department which contributes to the enrichment of students’ experiences, and rewards their efforts;
• Teaching Geography across all Key Stages;
• Organising and leading appropriate curriculum enrichment, including fieldwork at GCSE and A Level;
• Working with other Heads of Department to support the uptake and continued success of EBacc. at Key Stage 4;
• Being a Form Tutor.
