About the role
As Head of House you will play a crucial part in our relentless pursuit to become an outstanding school and realise our ambition of providing the "best life chances and best life choices" for every student.
Reporting directly to the Assistant Headteacher, you will foster a deep sense of belonging within your house. You’ll drive healthy competition through house championships, and uphold our core value of respect by ensuring excellent behavior and attendance.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Lead a vision of belonging for your mentor team and students, creating a nurturing and secure environment where all young people can thrive.
- Track, monitor, and implement appropriate interventions for student behaviour
- Collaborate closely with the Attendance Lead to manage and escalate cases when necessary.
- Undertake teaching responsibilities to an exemplary standard, while supporting and developing tutors and teaching staff.
- Work collaboratively with the wider School Leadership Team to implement school improvement strategies and engage parents, carers, and the community in school life.
About you
We are looking for an inspiring, resilient, and strategic educator who leads by example and holds high expectations for themselves and others. You should be a confident communicator capable of building strong, collaborative relationships across the school and the wider Trust.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
- Demonstrable experience in secondary school teaching alongside significant leadership experience.
- An exemplary track record of role-modeling Teaching Standards and upholding school values.
Skills & Attributes:
- A history of successfully raising student achievement, supporting young people to reach their full potential, and contributing to school improvement strategies.
- A strategic thinker who is flexible, confident in acting on their own initiative, and able to meet challenging deadlines.
- Proven ability to effectively manage both people and systems, guiding vulnerable students with care and exceptional safeguarding practices.

Everything at Mangotsfield School is based around its school
values driven by Headteacher, Hetty Blackmore. Having first
joined the school as a newly qualified teacher when she was
23 years old and returned to lead it later in her career, she is
very proud of the journey the school is on.
Mangotsfield School is proud to serve its community and has
been part of the local community since 1957. They have just
celebrated being rated as a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted (visit
March 2022).
There are wonderful resources and facilities on site, allowing
students to embrace curricular and extra-curricular
challenges from DT, art, dance, drama and a climbing wall to
name a few. There is a lot of open space, which is green and
calm. And this sense of calm is echoed in the school itself.
The school has a proud sporting history and teams have
travelled as far as Wembley to take part in national
competitions. The school is also on a mission to broaden
horizons with many co-curricular trips taking place, such as a
Year 7 trip to Slimbridge Wetlands for art research and a
Year 8 trip to Tyntesfield House to explore gothic horror
within the English curriculum.
