What skills and experience we're looking for

Head of House

TMS/UPS plus TLR 2C £7491 pa

We are looking for a full-time Head of House to join us from 1 September 2024 on a permanent basis. Reporting to one of our Assistant Headteachers, you will lead the House team as well as teaching your chosen subject. We welcome applications from any subject area.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join a committed and caring Pastoral team dedicated to ensuring that all pupils are supported to succeed and achieve their personal academic potential. Our mission:

We are St Katherine’s — a nurturing and inclusive community,

united in the pursuit of excellence

Our House system is the bedrock of our school community and the pastoral care we pride ourselves in. It is designed to unlock the limitless potential of every pupil and help them excel in everything they set out to do. It provides pupils with enrichment and leadership opportunities through a range of inter-house activities including academic events, sporting events and fun competitions.

All pupils are overseen by their Head of House who is responsible for their pastoral care and personal development. Each pupil belongs to a tutor group within their House which they stay in throughout their school career. Year 12 and 13 students have separate tutor groups but are affiliated to a House, acting as positive role models, mentors and leaders to younger students in their House.

We are looking for an excellent classroom teacher with the ability to:

  • Inspire and nurture their students within their House, maximising opportunities for learning and removing all barriers to inclusion to ensure that all students achieve their potential
  • Work collaboratively with families, professionals and external agencies to support children in their education and wellbeing throughout their time at St Katherine's and as they move to the next stage of their education.
  • Lead a House tutor team in delivering the highest standards of tutoring to support high levels of achievement for all students.

The successful candidate will have experience of dealing with child protection issues and be passionate about safeguarding. You will be an excellent communicator and team player who is able to work effectively under pressure and maintain an optimistic and positive attitude.

This post offers a fantastic opportunity for a teacher looking for their first middle leadership position, or a current middle leader looking to broaden their leadership experience. We are committed to continuous professional learning which is built into our school day each fortnight for all staff. We offer both internal and external leadership training including the NPQML and NPQSL programmes, leader profiling and shadowing opportunities. Coaching is embedded within our school to support and develop leadership potential and career progression for all staff. In addition, we actively promote opportunities for Trust wide working and collaboration across the trust, this is integral to our development.
