What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an experienced, values-driven practitioner with a proven record of high-quality teaching and curriculum development across Key Stages 3 and 4, and the vision to lead our Humanities provision into Key Stage 5. You will bring a rigorous approach to quality assurance, a passion for Humanities, and the ability to inspire staff and students alike. This post is ideal for someone seeking to make a significant impact, develop their leadership, and help shape the future of a truly unique academy.
What the school offers its staff
Are you ready to make your mark as the founding Head of Humanities at one of the most exciting new schools in Sandwell? Shireland CBSO Academy, opened in September 2023, is a unique institution established in partnership with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. As the country’s first state school to open in partnership with an arts organisation, our academy offers an innovative, creative and inclusive environment where every student’s potential is nurtured and celebrated.
This is a rare opportunity to join us as our inaugural Head of Humanities. We are seeking an inspiring, visionary leader to shape and deliver Humanities education across History, Geography, RE and Citizenship, and to lead our very first KS4 cohort, developing dynamic pathways into KS5. You will play a pivotal role in building an ambitious and progressive curriculum, ensuring outstanding teaching and learning, and promoting a passion for Humanities that resonates with our school’s creative ethos. You will also oversee delivery of Y9 L4L (Literacy for Life), working closely with our Directors of L4L to ensure excellent standards within our thematic KS3 curriculum.
Our students benefit from a vibrant, music-rich learning community, state-of-the-art facilities, and a school culture built upon collaboration, inclusion and high expectations. With the backing of the Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, you will have access to strong networks, extensive CPD and all the support needed to drive innovation and excellence in your team.
