Head of King’s Adventure

Contract: Permanent, full-time (37 hours per week)
Location: Regional, working across Great Schools Trust academies (Locations here)
Salary: £47,665-£50,908 (Grade P04)
Start date: Negotiable

Adventure is not a privilege. It is an entitlement.

At Great Schools Trust, we believe education should do more than prepare young people for examinations. It should prepare them for life.

Through King's Adventure, we create experiences that challenge limits, build character, develop leadership and help young people discover strengths they never knew they possessed.

We are seeking an exceptional Head of King's Adventure to lead the next chapter of this ambitious programme.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a progressive character and leadership curriculum from Year 1 to Year 11, leading exciting opportunities through the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Combined Cadet Force, outdoor expeditions, residentials and adventurous learning.

You will combine strategic vision with practical leadership, inspiring colleagues, developing partnerships and ensuring every young person, regardless of background or starting point, can participate and flourish.

You will:

  • Lead and develop our Trust-wide King's Adventure curriculum and enrichment programme.

  • Inspire, coach and develop staff, instructors and volunteers across our academies.

  • Oversee the quality and delivery of DofE, CCF, outdoor learning, expeditions and residential experiences.

  • Personally lead and deliver outstanding adventurous learning experiences.

  • Champion inclusion, safeguarding and responsible risk management, including fulfilling the Trust's Educational Visits Adviser role.

  • Create innovative opportunities that build resilience, independence and leadership in young people.

Who are we looking for?

An inspiring leader who believes that some of life's most powerful lessons are learned beyond the classroom.

You will bring experience of leading character education, outdoor learning, enrichment or youth development programmes, alongside excellent organisational skills, the ability to develop people and the confidence to turn ambitious ideas into exceptional experiences.

You will be degree qualified with relevant experience or have at least five years' relevant experience in a comparable leadership or management role. A full UK driving licence is essential. Relevant outdoor leadership qualifications and experience with DofE or CCF would be advantageous.

Above all, we want someone with imagination, ambition, integrity and an unwavering belief in the potential of every young person.

Why join Great Schools Trust?

You will join a values-led Trust where character and leadership are central to our mission, with genuine opportunities to innovate and make a lasting difference.

We offer 30 days' annual leave plus bank holidays for support staff, pension provision, wellbeing support, leadership development and opportunities to collaborate across our academies.

About The Great Schools Trust

Type
Multi-academy trust

At Great Schools Trust, we don’t just build schools, we forge futures. We are a high-performing, values-driven multi-academy trust committed to delivering transformational education for over 4,000 students across our academies in the North West of England. Our vision is simple yet bold: to develop a family of Great Schools where every student, regardless of background or starting point, flourishes, is happy, and achieves their full potential.

GST academies combine the rigour and ambition of independent education with the inclusivity and moral purpose of the state sector. Each school in our trust instils our core ASPIRE values; Aspiration, Self-awareness, Professionalism, Integrity, Respect, and Endeavour into everything we do. These are not just words; they’re the foundations of a culture where excellence becomes a habit.

As a National Behaviour Hub and leader in educational technology, we are proud pioneers in innovation and character education. Our King’s Adventure Programme develops young leaders of tomorrow through robust character-building, leadership experiences and a "King’s CV" that evidences every student’s growth journey. From AI-powered learning platforms to industry-leading CPD, we ensure our staff and students thrive in environments that champion curiosity, resilience and progress.

Our track record speaks volumes. From transforming schools in special measures into oversubscribed centres of excellence to closing the Progress 8 gap for disadvantaged students, GST is a beacon of social mobility and community transformation.

We are not just a trust, we are a movement. A movement powered by belief. *Credo-Credimus.* I believe, we believe.
