Job description

• To lead the Enhanced Provision of the school, ensuring a high quality delivery of all aspects of SEND provision
• To support the vision, ethos and policies of the school, and assist in the promotion, direction and oversight of high standards of teaching and learning, pupil achievement and progression through effective inclusion for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
• To support the creation and implementation of the school improvement plan within the national and local context, and to take sole responsibility for appropriately delegated aspects of the plan
• To support all staff in achieving the priorities and targets which the school sets for itself, and to provide them with support and guidance to carry out their roles
• To monitor the quality of SEND support delivered both by teachers and teaching assistants
• To support the evaluation of the effectiveness of the school’s policies and developments, with particular attention to SEND requirements
• To support the Headteacher in ensuring that the school adheres to all child protection and safeguarding requirements

Essential educational requirements

Undergraduate degree

Essential qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status
• Hold the National Award for SEN Co-ordination (NASENCO) (desirable)

Essential skills and experience

•leadership experience which has impacted on an aspect of whole-school improvement
•the ability to lead and drive effective SEND provision and to maintain and promote our inclusive school ethos
•high expectations of themselves, colleagues and pupils and the energy and determination to make a difference
•a good understanding of relevant and current educational policy and practice
•exceptional expertise in all matters relating to SEND–including being a strong practitioner themselves and fully capable of impacting widely on the practice of others
•ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with all stakeholders
•Knowledge of relevant legislation, in particular the SEN Code of Practice, equal opportunities and disability discrimination and how these apply to pupils with EHCPs as well as those without
•Knowledge of the range and type of interventions available and be able to apply these appropriately in the context of the School's resources and the individual child
