Head of Mathematics job summary

We seek to appoint a full-time, well-qualified, enthusiastic graduate of Mathematics as Head of Department from September 2022. The post arises as a result of the retirement of the current postholder. This is a rare opportunity to lead one of the most successful departments in the only fully IB school in a South East London borough, a grammar school with a reputation for excellence.

As you would expect, Mathematics at Bexley Grammar has a high profile across the school. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and work with well-motivated and intelligent young mathematicians and their teachers. The Mathematics department is large and housed in a suite of rooms. It achieves excellent results on a routine basis under the current leadership of a well-established Head of Department, a second in department and a Key Stage 3 leader. The department consistently achieves excellent examination results at both Key Stage 4 and 5. All students (over 420 across Year 12 and 13) study Mathematics in the Sixth Form as part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Candidates with ability/experience in teaching A level Mathematics will find themselves at home in the IB classroom.

The Mathematics Department consists of 8 full-time members of staff. All of our colleagues teach from Year 7 through to Higher IB. The successful candidate will be able to deliver Mathematics to Higher IB and Oxbridge entrance level. The Department has a highly collegiate and supportive atmosphere.
