Head of Maths job summary
Our Lady & St Bede Catholic Academy are seeking an inspirational, dynamic, and forward-thinking Head of Mathematics to lead our successful and dedicated Maths department.
As the Head of Maths, you will shape the strategic vision for the department, drive academic standards, and mentor a team of passionate educators. You will ensure the delivery of a high-quality curriculum that challenges, inspires, and supports students of all abilities. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher looking to step into leadership or an existing head of department seeking a fresh challenge in a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Provide a clear vision and direction for the Mathematics department aligned with the school’s overall goals.
- Curriculum Design: Oversee the development and implementation of an engaging, high-impact Maths curriculum across all key stages.
- Teaching & Learning: Lead by example as an outstanding classroom practitioner, promoting innovative and effective teaching practices.
- Team Development: Line manage, mentor, and support Maths teachers, fostering a collaborative and professional team culture.
- Student Progress: Monitor, analyze, and track student data to implement effective interventions and maximize student outcomes.
About You (Person Specification)
- Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
- Experience: A proven track record of delivering excellent student outcomes at GCSE (and A-Level, if applicable). Experience in leading initiatives or managing people is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and data-analysis skills, with the ability to motivate both staff and students.
- Mindset: Enthusiastic, resilient, and deeply committed to educational equity and excellence.
