Head of Modern Foreign Languages job summary
Are you a passionate linguist and experienced educator ready to lead a thriving Modern Foreign Languages department? Do you believe in the power of language to open doors and broaden horizons? Astrea Academy Sheffield is seeking a dynamic Head of MFL to drive excellence in teaching, curriculum, and outcomes across our all-through academy.
About the RoleAs Head of MFL, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the language learning experience for scholars across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will lead the strategic development of the department, ensuring a knowledge-rich, inclusive curriculum that inspires curiosity, fosters achievement, and prepares students for a global future.
You will:
- Lead curriculum planning, assessment, and teaching strategies across the MFL department.
- Ensure high standards of learning, development, and achievement for all scholars.
- Support and develop a team of teachers, promoting collaboration and professional growth.
- Monitor progress, implement interventions, and drive continuous improvement.
- Champion a culture of high expectations, impeccable behaviour, and academic excellence.
- Qualified Teacher Status and a good honours degree.
- Evidence of outstanding teaching at KS3 and KS4 (A-level experience desirable).
- Deep knowledge of the MFL curriculum and innovative teaching approaches.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and support colleagues.
- A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and the highest professional standards.
- A passion for languages and a belief in their power to transform lives.
