What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking an inspirational and ambitious head of music to lead and develop music at our school. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and creative teacher who is passionate about bringing music to life, inspiring students and building a vibrant musical culture across the school. You will bring energy, enthusiasm and vision to the role, combining excellent classroom practice with the drive to develop an ambitious and engaging curriculum. We are looking for someone who believes in the power of music to unlock potential, build confidence and provide opportunities for students of all abilities to discover and develop their talents.
As head of music, you will lead teaching and learning, drive achievement and attainment, and champion music both within and beyond the classroom. You will play a key role in raising the profile of music across the school, creating opportunities for students to perform, participate and thrive.
Our successful candidate will have the following experience, skillset and qualifications:
§ Commitment to improving student learning and raising achievement
§ Enthusiasm to inspire in students a desire to learn and participate
§ A willingness to get involved in the department’s extra-curricular offer
§ Commitment to professional development and continual improvement
§ Honours degree
§ DfE recognised Qualified Teacher Status
The post is full-time and permanent from 1 January 2027 reporting to a member of SLT.
What the school offers its staff

- Access to the Teachers’ Pensions Scheme
- Automatic pay progression for those on our main, upper and support staff pay ranges
- 7 training days calendared with a view to alleviate pressure at key times in the year, with a training day in December dedicated to marking mock exams
- Access to a range of paid special leave provisions to help with life’s emergencies, unpredictable events and significant occasions.
- Access to a bank of pre-planned teaching resources. You need to intellectually prepare for lessons rather than plan from scratch.
- Salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme
- Recommend a Friend Scheme available for some of our hard to fill roles
- Healthcare benefits including free eye test vouchers for DSE users and flu vaccinations
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Access to shopping and lifestyle discounts
