Whether you are a talented Music Teacher who is aspiring to middle management, or an experienced, existing Head of Music, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the continued development of the thriving musical life of Winton Community Academy. We are well known for music and the performing arts as a school, and are proud to be one of the lead schools for Hampshire music Hub which is an exciting opportunity to be part of as a music lead.

Working closely with the Head of Performing Arts, you will take responsibility for the academic provision and outcomes of pupils in the school at all key stage 3/4 and oversee a vibrant and challenging curriculum, building on a strong record of examination outcomes in the first year of offering GCSE music. We currently have 2 GCSE Music classes and 1 Music Technology class in year 10 and music is a popular subject amongst students.

You will lead the vision for and delivery of the Music curriculum in line with the department development plan and foster a love of Music in all pupils, regardless of their skills or experience, leading by example and promoting excellence in teaching and learning.

You will be responsible for the maintenance of schemes of work from Year 7 to Year 11, ensuring progress and continuity between key stages and monitor pupils' work and the classroom practice of those in the department to ensure that high standards are maintained and that the delivery of schemes of work is consistent.

You will also arrange various enrichment activities for pupils and oversee the instrumental lessons and scholarship programme.

About you:

* A good honours degree, or equivalent, in Music is essential.
* High expectations, and the ability to inspire, excite and motivate pupils are equally important, as are strong classroom teaching skills and a commitment to sustained improvement in this area.
* You will need to be able to develop a good rapport with pupils, engage them in their learning, and ensure that high standards are maintained.
* An ability to teach Music Technology to KS4 level is desirable.
* Ability to deliver choir/vocal sessions desirable.
* Good Piano skills are also desirable.
* Team player who wants to enjoy working in a big busy department.

The school has rapidly improved and was graded a "Good" school by Ofsted in 2018. Our school is quickly gaining a positive reputation across Andover as a place where excellent teaching and strong support means that students thrive at our school.

Our students are our absolute strength. They are overwhelmingly polite, respectful and hard-working. We expect our students to work hard and behave well both inside and outside of the classroom. Over the last two years we have invested heavily in improving the resources that students have access to such as a new dance studio, a new library and the development of our animal management area as we believe our students deserve the best in order to be successful. As a community, we live and breathe our school values as we all understand that by adhering to them our community will be a better place to learn.
