Head of PHSE & Citizenship job summary

Orion Coopers is seeking a committed and inspiring Head of PSHE & Citizenship to lead and develop a vital curriculum area that plays a central role in pupils’ personal development, wellbeing and preparation for life beyond school. This permanent position offers the opportunity to shape, deliver and quality assure Citizenship, PSHE and RSE across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, ensuring provision meets statutory requirements and reflects the needs of a diverse school community.

Reporting to the Head of Humanities, the post holder will provide strategic leadership for the subject, developing robust schemes of learning, driving high-quality teaching and learning, and ensuring consistent delivery by all staff. You will keep abreast of national developments in Citizenship, PSHE and RSE, using research, data and feedback from students, parents and stakeholders to inform continuous improvement.

The role includes leading CPD for staff, monitoring and supporting teaching quality, managing the PSHE budget, and contributing to the wider ethos and culture of the school. You will work closely with pastoral, safeguarding and senior leadership teams to ensure that British values, equality, diversity, and students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development are embedded across the curriculum.
