What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint an experienced and passionate Head of Religious Education with a strong subject knowledge and a commitment to student progress and achievement. The ideal candidate should have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Religious Studies, Theology, or a related subject.
  • A proven track record of excellent teaching with experience at KS3, KS4, and ideally KS5.
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration skills, with experience managing a department or leading curriculum development.
  • A commitment to Catholic education and the ability to promote the school’s ethos and values.
  • Experience in using data to track progress and implement effective interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire both students and staff.

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a well-established Religious Education department at St. Aloysius’ College, a high-performing Catholic school in Islington. The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and implement a high-quality RE curriculum aligned with the school’s Catholic ethos.
  • Lead and support the RE teaching team, providing guidance and professional development.
  • Deliver engaging and inspiring lessons, fostering critical thinking and a deep understanding of religious and ethical issues.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, using data to inform planning and interventions.
  • Contribute to the wider school community, participating in pastoral care, school events, and extracurricular activities.
