Head of School job summary

We are delighted that you are interested in applying for the role of Head of School at Fawcett Primary School. The school is part of The Trumpington Federation, a federation of two primary schools which was established in 2012 on the foundation of a belief that two schools together can achieve more than one school alone. The schools work together to serve our local children, and our vision is centred around all members of our community growing and learning together.

This vacancy has arisen following the appointment of the current Head at Fawcett to the position of Federation Executive Head Teacher from September 2026. We are now looking for a new Head of School who believes in the power of collaboration; the successful candidate will be excited about the opportunity to work closely with the Executive Head Teacher and the Head of School at the partner school, Trumpington Meadows Primary School. Together, our Senior Leadership Team will work to continue to shape an excellent school experience that serves the needs of all of our children and sets them all up to develop a life-long love of learning. Under the leadership of the Executive Head Teacher, the two schools are unified by this shared vision, but it is important to us that both Heads of School retain autonomy to run their school on a day-to-day basis. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the initiative and team-spirit needed to lead a school within a Federation.

This post would suit either a current Head of School looking to use their experience in a new setting, or a current Deputy or Assistant Head looking to take the next step in their career. As a Federation, we are proud of the opportunities our staff have for professional development and we would be pleased to support a driven individual with a strong track record of effective senior leadership.

We are fortunate to have an exceptionally dedicated staff team at Fawcett who put our pupils at the heart of everything. If you think you would be the person to lead this team and shape the daily experience of our pupils, we warmly encourage you to apply for the role. Interested applicants are welcome to come and visit the school, but if you are not able to visit during the timeframe then our weekly school Newsletters will give you a good sense of the school, as will our Federation Instagram account.

Fawcett Primary School and Nursery is a well-established school in the heart of Trumpington. The school is named in honour of Henry Fawcett, the distinguished Victorian academic and politician.

The school was built to meet the need of families moving into the new post-war housing in the area, with a separate junior school (opened in 1949) and infant school (opened in 1950). The infant and junior schools were amalgamated in 1989.

The school has been through a period of rapid expansion and development and has grown from one to two forms of entry.
We now work alongside our sister school at Trumpington Meadows to develop the best possible educational opportunities for our students. We welcome families from the expanding Trumpington community and have a diverse and inclusive school family.

Our vision and values reflect our staff’s determination to support children and adults to grow and learn together, working in partnership with parents to ensure all children are ambitious and able to achieve their fullest potential.

We celebrate our inclusive culture and strive to provide the children with a range of fun, real-life experiences that will develop their understanding and appreciation of the world around them.

Our curriculum has been carefully designed to make the most of local opportunities, including offering the children trips and visitors to enhance and deepen their learning, whilst also being rigorous in ensuring children develop the knowledge and skills they will need to be successful at the next stage of their education.

Through our topic themes, specialist music and PE teaching, our expansion of our Forest School programme, and through extra-curricular opportunities, we strive to go beyond the National Curriculum and provide a dynamic curriculum that encourages creativity, problem-solving and a love of learning.
