Head of School (Part-Time, Job Share) - Avalon School

Leadership Scale L11-L17 (pro rata) | 2 days per week

Avalon School, part of the Bower Learning Partnership, is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced leader to join us as a part-time Head of School (2 days per week). This role operates within a job share model, working alongside an existing Head of School (3 days per week) to provide strong, consistent leadership across the school.

This role would be a perfect secondment opportunity for someone currently in a senior leadership position who is driven and passionate about their own professional development and provides an ideal opportunity for professional development.

This is a non-teaching role with a clear focus on teaching and learning, safeguarding and curriculum design. You will play a key role in leading the school day to day, developing high-quality provision and driving school improvement, while contributing to the wider leadership of the partnership.

Avalon is a nurturing special school for secondary-aged pupils with EHCPs, where we are committed to our vision of ‘Learning for Life’—supporting pupils to develop the skills, confidence and independence they need for adulthood.

We are looking for a leader who:

  • Has experience of senior leadership and school improvement
  • Can lead and develop a team with clarity, empathy and high expectations
  • Has strong knowledge of teaching and learning, curriculum and SEND practice
  • Is committed to inclusion, student voice and person-centred approaches

In return, we offer:

  • A supportive and collaborative leadership structure, including an experienced Executive Team
  • Strong opportunities for professional development and leadership growth, including secondment opportunities
  • The chance to make a real difference to the lives of young people within a values-driven partnership

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged.

If you are looking to take the next step in your leadership journey within a supportive and ambitious partnership, we would be delighted to hear from you.
