What skills and experience we're looking for

Yealmpstone Farm Primary school is a member of the IDEAL Alliance (inclusion, diversity, equity, achievement and leadership) which is a group of maintained local authority schools with a specialism in early years. It is predominantly a one form entry school but we do have some year groups with two classes.

We are looking for a leader who will support and grow our culture of belonging, where all adults have a relational approach with pupils and a close community cohesion. Are you an ethical leader who can show these important values in all you do? Our new leader will have a deep understanding of early help for families and an awareness of how we can connect services to provide support and enable families to thrive. We have a strong safeguarding culture and we are looking for a leader who can maintain this and develop it further.

Do you keep up to date with the latest evidence based research for education and the curriculum? We are looking for a leader who can help us to embed our curriculum design through the IDEAL lesson which we have been working on for the last few years. We have a values-based curriculum, exploring our learning through the lenses of social justice, environmental responsibility and community belonging. Striving to inspire our children to make a positive change in the world.

Are you a problem solver and a creative thinker? We are a school that thinks outside the box in order to offer the best support and challenge for our pupils. We are a strong team and we believe together we can learn from the best educational examples to further improve our offer. Our leader will show through their actions that every member of the team is highly valued and important to the overall running of our school.

We are looking for a headteacher who will:

  • Be hands-on with an open-door approach and an active presence around school.
  • Know our community and the context it serves.
  • Have ambition for all children to achieve the highest standards.
  • Have experience of leading people, developing their expertise and holding to account.
  • Have proven senior leadership experience within a primary school.
  • Be visionary and creative, leading with honesty and integrity.
  • Communicate confidently with all members of the school community.
  • Take time to get to know all children and staff in order to maximise their potential in a supportive way.

What the school offers its staff

The IDEAL Alliance is a group of high achieving schools and early years settings providing excellence in education for 0 - 11 year olds. We are a family of one local authority maintained primary school, two nursery schools, three daycare PVI provisions, the Early Years Speech and Language Education Support Team for Plymouth and the Early Years Southwest Stronger Practice Hub.

At the heart of everything we do is the child. It is our mission to provide the very best education to all young people, whatever their age or stage, in our local region. We know that education can transform lives, providing social mobility by tackling deprivation, and overcoming barriers.

Through fantastic teaching and learning, wrap around holistic care, and amazing enrichment and leadership opportunities, we ensure that all children thrive by developing self-esteem and high aspirations, to make sure no child gets left behind.

Our values are at the core of all we do, and we believe that when inclusion, diversity and equity are the focus, everyone feels that they belong. We believe that each child is gifted and unique and deserves to be nurtured in our schools and settings, whatever their background.

Our drive for high standards is embodied by the improvement in attainment and high-quality interactions that has been seen in all of our schools and settings.

An outstanding alliance needs an outstanding workforce, and this is central to our success. We will continue to invest in our staff, identify and promote talent and use the skills of individuals to make us stronger. We have access to the latest evidence based research for high quality education and we are committed to supporting our staff to progress in their career aspirations.

We have achieved a great deal so far but are ready to go further. Through ongoing self-analysis, review and learning from others, we strive to be one of the best alliances in the country and be renowned for excellent practice in all areas.
