What skills and experience we're looking for
We have an exciting opportunity for a new Headteacher to lead St Helen’s C of E School, located just outside of Bideford, as it transfers into the Learning Academy Partnership from Alumnis Multi-Academy Trust. It is an exciting time for the school but also one of change for children, colleagues, parents and the community. This is a joint recruitment with Alumnis as the school will be transferring between Trusts in the summer term.
We are offering a £5,000 relocation package for candidates relocating from outside Devon or Cornwall.
St Helen’s is in a period of change, and we are seeking a Headteacher who can manage not only the change for the parents, children and colleagues but also ensure a strong curriculum offer delivering inclusive practice, effective pedagogical practice and outcomes in place, and that it unashamedly privileges the most underserved children.
The Learning Academy Partnership is driven by mission and beliefs ensuring that every child has the right to live life to the full. We are committed to improving educational outcomes for underserved children across the South-West and breaking down barriers to social mobility. Our Headteachers achieve this through a rich, vibrant curriculum delivered by excellent teachers.
You will be joining a strong, single organisation, culture of collective efficacy and one that is rooted in our Christian foundation. We are passionate about our role in social justice in our communities and tackling stubborn South West deprivation.
As a Church School leader, you will uphold and develop the school’s Christian distinctiveness through its educational offer. We welcome applicants with or without prior experience of leading a Church school. We offer full induction and support as you embark on a journey as a church school leader.
What the school offers its staff
You will benefit from excellent systems and support from the Business Support team who manage all aspects of the operations, leaving you space to lead teaching and learning. You will also join a local hub as well as the wider partnership of schools where you will be part of hard-wired inter-dependence and collaboration with a shared responsibility to all children in the Trust. We do operate as islands; we care deeply about each other’s schools and communities.
Our Headteachers and colleagues are rooted in their communities and work hard to serve their children, and successful candidates will be able to ensure this relationship with pupils and the community continue to flourish.
St Helen’s is a wonderful school ready to take the next big step on its journey and the new Headteacher has a wonderful opportunity to work with pupils, parents, colleagues and the community to continue the St Helen’s journey as it transfers from Alumnis Multi-Academy Trust to the Learning Academy Partnership.
We want to support you in deciding if we are the right trust for you. If you would like to arrange a visit to the school, we are offering visits with our Trust Lead / Deputy Trust Lead on Wednesday 11th February and Tuesday 3rd March 2026. Please contact our People Team on people@lapsw.org to book your visit.
For more information and an application pack, please visit our website www.lapsw.co.uk
We apologise as due to the situation we can only offer group visits but by offering a 1:1 call we aim to answer individual questions to help you learn more about whether this is the right Trust and school for you.

We are an inclusive School Trust where everything begins and ends with the children. We want to ensure that we have a profound impact on the future lives of our children so that they have choices and options which will enable them to flourish as they go through life. Quite simply, we put children first in all that we do.
We are committed to social mobility by working together as a single School Trust with a shared responsibility for all children, no matter which school they attend, including Church and community schools.
We invest in people, enabling them to flourish and ensure that every child is taught by a great teacher. Our wellbeing strategy enables us to nurture, develop and care for our colleagues so that they can provide the very best for our children
We want every child to experience an excellent curriculum which is distinctive to their community and create environments where they are cared for, inspired, challenged, and develop a love of learning.
We care passionately about children outside of our School Trust as well. We collaborate and work with other schools and School Trusts as well as being a National English Hub that specialises in early reading and phonics.
We are driven by our values and our passion is to serve our pupils, colleagues, and communities to the very best of our abilities.
