What skills and experience we're looking for

Head of Department - Technology and Engineering

Shape the Future of Technical Education at Newhouse Academy

Are you a visionary educator ready to lead at the intersection of industry, innovation, and inspiration?

Newhouse Academy is entering a transformative new chapter. We are not just teaching Engineering and Technology - we are building the future workforce of Greater Manchester. We are seeking a bold, forward-thinking Head of Department to spearhead our strategy, deepen our high-profile industry partnerships, and ignite a passion for STEM in our students.

The Opportunity: Beyond the Classroom

This isn't just a leadership role; it’s a platform for impact. As a key player in the Greater Manchester "MBacc" initiative (led by Mayor Andy Burnham), we are at the forefront of the technical education revolution.

By joining us, you will:

  • Drive Innovation: Lead the curriculum transformation of our department, ensuring our students are learning the skills that industry demands today and tomorrow.
  • Build Strategic Partnerships: Be the face of Newhouse Academy in strengthening our collaboration with the Baker Dearing Trust, UTC Bolton, and regional industry leaders. Collaborate with the academy’s Careers Team to gain KS4 students The Baker Award.
  • Create Real-World Experiences: Take our students beyond theory. You will oversee projects that span from design to reality - like our current work with Aston University and Silverstone which is giving students hands-on experience in STEM.
  • Mentor and Grow: You will be supported by, and work alongside, established experts from the University Collegiate College Bolton (UCCB), sharing best practices and elevating the standard of teaching and opportunities for our students.

Who You Are

We are looking for a leader who values excellence as much as empathy. You are:

  • An Inspiring Leader: You have the ability to build, nurture, and grow high-performing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration.
  • A Strategic Thinker: You use data to identify opportunities, drive performance, and ensure every student has an ambitious progression route.
  • A Champion for Inclusivity: You are committed to student wellbeing and ensuring that every learner - regardless of background - has the support they need to succeed.
  • Values-Driven: You embody our core pillars of Aspiration, Integrity, and Respect.

What the school offers its staff

Why Newhouse Academy?

  • Top-Tier Facilities: You will work with brand-new, industry-standard equipment designed to give students a competitive edge.
  • Proven Excellence: We are proud winners of the “Careers Mark,” a testament to our dedication to our students’ futures.
  • Ambitious Environment: You are joining a school with a bold, sector-leading vision for technical subjects. Our students want to be here, and they are hungry for the opportunities you will create.
