Head of the Physical Education Department job summary

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Head of our PE Department, someone who has a high expectations of students and themselves and who will motivate and inspire staff and pupils to achieve their best. The post commences in September 2021 and has arisen after the retirement of the current postholder. The successful candidate should have the ability to teach a range of activities from KS3 to KS4 and will have the opportunity to teach higher ability students from KS3 to KS4.

The PE Department is well organised and resourced and provides a supportive working atmosphere for staff. We have excellent facilities with a modern Sports Hall, which also houses a multi-gym, a gymnasium and extensive sports fields. We are in the final round of an application for a 3G pitch which we hope to have in place for September 2021. PE is part of the core curriculum at KS3 and 4 and is also a popular choice at examination level for GCSE. In 2019, 66% of GCSE PE students achieved 7-9 grades. In addition, a large proportion of students take part in a huge range of extra-curricular activities, including International Sports Tours.

Extra-curricular is very strong and plays an important role in the life of the school. The successful applicant will be expected to play a key role in its continued development and further add to the existing programme. The ability to recruit and enthuse non-specialist teaching staff to support the extra-curricular programme would be advantageous, following the absence of after school activities during Covid19.

Outdoor Education plays a large part in the Latymer extended curriculum. We have a field centre in Wales where all students in Years 7 take part in a range of outdoor adventure activities and in Year 9 students go to a residential centre in Conwy Anglesey. It would be good to see the PE Department involved in the planning of these activities.

If you would like to work in a friendly environment, we would like to hear from you.
Further details are available on the school website.

Closing date for application: 10am on Tuesday, 4th May 2021
