Head of Year (Non-Teaching) job summary
About the Role
We are seeking a committed and highly effective Non-Teaching Head of Year to join our pastoral team at Royal Docks Academy.
This is a pivotal role focused on securing high standards of behaviour, attendance, personal development and wellbeing for a designated year group. Working closely with senior leaders, tutors, teaching staff, families and external agencies, the post-holder will ensure that pupils are well supported, safe and able to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the pastoral provision for a year group, maintaining high expectations for behaviour, conduct and attitudes to learning.
- Monitor attendance, behaviour and wellbeing, implementing early and targeted interventions.
- Act as the key point of contact for parents/carers, building strong, positive partnerships.
- Work collaboratively with tutors, teaching staff, SEND, safeguarding and pupil welfare teams.
- Coordinate and support behaviour interventions, reintegration meetings and where required, alternative provision pathways.
- Maintain high visibility around the school during key transition points, line-ups and social times.
- Use data effectively to track progress, identify concerns and evaluate impact.
The Ideal Candidate

- Has experience working with young people in a secondary school or similar setting.
- Demonstrates strong pastoral leadership and behaviour management skills.
- Is calm, resilient and able to manage challenging situations with professionalism.
- Communicates confidently and effectively with pupils, colleagues, parents and external agencies.
