Head of Year job summary
We are recruiting for a Head of Year to join our team!
The ideal candidate will be an ambitious teacher with a passion for pastoral care and personal development, who will play a key role within our pastoral structure. As a school, we have one teaching Head of Year per year group from Year 7 to Year 11, supported by the wider pastoral team. We are keen to hear from candidates who are interested in joining as Head of Year of any year group. The starting year group will be agreed with the successful candidate.
The role of Head of Year at our school is hugely fulfilling and rewarding. Our Heads of Year have the opportunity to work closely with students individually and as a whole year group to help each student enjoy their time at school and achieve the best outcomes possible. As Head of Year, you will support students who need individualised support to help them to meet the outstanding behaviour and attitude expectations of the school. For your year group as a collective, you will deliver assemblies, as well as organise an annual residential which provides a great opportunity to spend time with the students in a more relaxed environment. Our Heads of Year also lead a tutor team and support the daily tutor programme, including doing learning walks during tutor time as part of our quality assurance process. Our Heads of Year play a key role throughout students’ school journey, including being a key person at crucial times such as transition from primary to Year 7, in Year 9 when students choose their options, and supporting Year 11s during their GCSEs.

Torquay Girls’ Grammar School is a girls’ 11 to 16 selective Single Academy Trust, with a mixed Sixth Form (16 to 18), located in Torquay, Devon.
