Head Teacher job summary

The Gallery Trust is seeking to appoint an inspirational, relational and ambitious Head Teacher to lead Bloxham Grove Academy through the next stage of its development.

Bloxham Grove Academy opened in January 2024 and has developed rapidly into a thriving special-school community. With its establishment and initial growth phase now complete, this appointment provides an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Head Teacher to build upon strong foundations while shaping the academy's future.

We are seeking a leader who will:

• provide clear, values-led educational leadership and maintain high aspirations for every student;
• understand and champion high-quality specialist education for children and young people with SEND;
• sustain and further develop BGA's relational, restorative and inclusive culture;
• ensure an ambitious, coherent and appropriately adapted curriculum which prepares students for adulthood and life beyond school;
• maintain a strong focus on the quality of teaching, student achievement and personal development;
• understand the importance of communication, emotional regulation, relationships and belonging in enabling students to learn and thrive;
• develop leadership capacity at all levels and create a culture in which staff are trusted, supported, challenged and encouraged to develop;
• combine strategic thinking with effective operational leadership;
• work in genuine partnership with students, families, staff, the Local Advisory Board, The Gallery Trust and external professionals;
• lead continuous improvement through accurate self-evaluation, professional curiosity and evidence-informed practice.

The Head Teacher will hold responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and management of Bloxham Grove Academy and will work closely with the Executive Head Teacher and key colleagues within The Gallery Trust. The Executive Head Teacher arrangement is initially in place for the remainder of the 2026 - 2027 academic year and will be subject to review.

The successful candidate will lead BGA at an important point in its development. The academy has grown from a new free school into an established school community in a relatively short period of time. The next stage is about consolidating that growth, continuing to develop the quality and consistency of provision and building leadership capacity so that the academy remains ambitious, reflective and sustainable for the future.

Bloxham Grove Academy is a brand-new special free school which opened in a new purpose-built building in January 2024. We are fortunate in having first-class facilities, a state-of-the-art building, and excellent outdoor spaces in a rural location, providing us with a very special environment for our community to use and enjoy.

The academy provides exemplary education and care for students with Cognition and Learning needs, Autism Spectrum Condition, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. We currently have 55 students on roll, and by 2027, Bloxham Grove Academy will have 100 students on roll between the ages of 7 to 18 across Key Stages 2, 3, 4 and 5.
