Headteacher - Buxton Infants and Buxton Junior job summary

Two schools. Two sites. One Headteacher.

Buxton Infant School and Buxton Junior School are two well-established, schools at the heart of the Buxton community. Each has a strong identity, committed staff and a clear focus on children and families. Historically led separately, we are now appointing one Headteacher across both schools, creating a rare opportunity to bring the schools closer together while protecting what makes each one distinctive.

This is a substantive headship for a leader who is motivated by connection, coherence and long-term impact. The role is about joining up leadership, strengthening transition from Infant to Junior phase, aligning culture and expectations, and building a shared sense of purpose across two sites whilst driving school improvement.

As Headteacher, you will:

  • Lead across two schools and two sites, bringing the schools together and creating greater consistency in culture, routines and expectations, while respecting each school’s identity

  • Strengthen transition from Infants to Juniors so children experience a clear, coherent journey

  • Build on strong foundations of inclusive, child-centred practice, SEND provision and pastoral care

  • Work closely with parents and carers as trusted partners in children’s learning

  • Develop leadership capacity and work collaboratively with governors and Embark Federation

This role will suit an experienced primary leader who:

  • is confident leading through complexity and change

  • can bring people with them through trust, clarity and strong relationships

  • understands the importance of calm, sustained leadership, not quick fixes

  • is deeply committed to equity, inclusion and children’s life chances

  • can balance strategic thinking with a strong presence in school life

You will be trusted to lead, supported by the Trust, and expected to do so with integrity, sound judgement and compassion.
