Headteacher job summary

Headteacher — Lancaster School
Group 6 (L28-L32) Permanent, full-time From September 2027

At Lancaster, 170 young people aged 11 to 19 with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties spend their most important years preparing for adult life. They learn to communicate in the way that works for them, travel independently, cook, work, contribute to their community and move on with confidence. What happens here shapes where they will live, who they will spend their days with, and how much say they will have over their own lives.

Our current Headteacher retires in July 2027 after nine years. We are looking for an ambitious, values-led leader with deep SEND expertise who will build on strong foundations and make Lancaster consistently strong in every area, so that every young person thrives in school and in the world beyond it.

You will lead with real authority, within a collaborative trust of four specialist schools and a children’s home. We offer regular coaching from the CEO, a supportive Headteachers Group, central services in finance, HR, governance and IT, and a planned handover.

Visits are warmly encouraged from 2 November. Please read the full recruitment pack before applying.
