Headteacher job summary

Peterchurch Primary School is recruiting a head teacher to lead us through an exciting time of change.

Based in the beautiful Golden Valley in between Hereford and Hay on Wye, this is a hands- on position at a school that sits at the heart of our rural community.

The Headteacher role provides an exciting opportunity to both teach and lead in a combined role at this warm and welcoming school.

Our Headteacher will teach for 50% of their time, and lead for the other 50%. And there are three significant new challenges for our incoming leader:

  • Peterchurch received a good Ofsted report at our recent inspection, but we will need to prove our competence again in a full inspection before the end of this academic year.

  • Currently a community school, we plan to become part of a MAT.

  • And we are also in the final stages of a feasibility study to rebuild our entire school!

  • This role will suit an existing head or experienced deputy head who would relish the opportunity to lead during a dynamic time of change.

    They will:

    • Have a strong vision for the identity and future of our school
    •  Ensure pupil wellbeing and development is our priority
    • Inspire and nurture our excellent team

    Our head will be:

    • Great with people
    • Excited by the opportunity to become the headteacher of Peterchurch Primary School
    • Ambitious to transform Peterchurch into an all it can become

Deadline for completed applications is October 14th 2022. Interviews will take place in person on 20th October.

We are very proud of our school. It is an exceptionally happy and caring school. Bright and stimulating, it has a lively and purposeful atmosphere. It is special place where children thrive and are at the heart of everything we do. We strive to work in active partnership with parents and carers and are keen to play an active role within the Peterchurch village community. We have a dedicated and highly skilled staff who are all committed to the children in their care, ensuring they feel valued and have a sense of pride in themselves, their school and their community.

Our aim is to inspire a love for learning in a safe and happy environment so that they develop as independent learners and thinkers who are engaged and curious about the world around them. Learning experiences at the school are carefully designed to develop deep thinking skills with an ability to reflect, consider, analyse and evaluate.

Subjects are brought vividly to life in imaginative ways. We recognise our children as unique individuals with often very specific talents and needs. We therefore work tirelessly to provide a broad, well-sequenced and engaging curriculum in order to ensure that we are a school where ‘no child’s talent is left undiscovered’ and where learning is full of memorable moments.
