Are you passionate about creating safe, supportive environments where young people can learn and thrive? Do you have the expertise to guide a Trust in maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and wellbeing? As a Health & Safety Trustee, you’ll play a crucial strategic role in ensuring that every school within our Trust is a secure place for pupils and staff to flourish.

This role is your opportunity to make a Trust-wide impact, shaping the systems, cultures, and decisions that keep our communities safe every single day.

As a Health & Safety Trustee, you will:

Champion a Culture of Safety:Use your experience to influence the Trust’s policies, practices, and strategic decisions, ensuring health and safety remains a priority across all schools.

Strengthen Compliance & Assurance:Provide oversight of statutory responsibilities, risk management, safeguarding practices, and site safety, helping the Trust stay compliant and confident.

Support and Constructively Challenge:Offer professional insight to senior leaders, helping them make informed decisions and embedding best practice across the Trust.

Promote Wellbeing for All:Contribute to discussions around staff and pupil wellbeing, mental health considerations, and inclusive practices that support safe access to education for every learner.

Collaborate at Board Level:Work with fellow Trustees to ensure that safety considerations underpin wider strategic planning, resource allocation, and operational effectiveness.

What We’re Looking For:

You may come from backgrounds such as health & safety management, compliance, estates, facilities management, risk, emergency planning, or safeguarding and boast strong experience in these fields. Experience in education is a bonus, but absolutely not essential.

What matters most is your:

  • Commitment to ensuring safe, supportive school environments for young people
  • Experience in health & safety, risk, or compliance
  • Ability to analyse information and communicate it clearly to non-specialists
  • Willingness to dedicate time for Board meetings, preparation, and occasional school visits
