What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking a passionate, motivated, and inspiring teacher to join our thriving Health and Social Care department at Southfields Academy. This is an exciting opportunity for a specialist who can deliver high-quality teaching across all ability levels up to Level 3, and who is committed to making a real difference to students’ lives.

Health and Social Care is one of our most popular and successful subjects, with many students progressing to careers in social work, adult nursing, midwifery, and radiology, as well as securing places at leading universities, including Russell Group institutions. We offer a strong and well-established curriculum across KS4 (BTEC Tech Award), Level 2 (NCFE CACHE Certificate), and Level 3 (BTEC National Diploma).

Health and Social Care is part of the Social Sciences department which also delivers core Religious Education and PSHE, Citizenship GCSE, Sociology GCSE and A-level Sociology and Psychology A-level.

We are looking for a teacher who brings energy and creativity to the classroom, with excellent planning and strong behaviour management skills. You will have the ability to engage and inspire learners through a range of teaching approaches, bringing the subject to life with meaningful, real-world connections. This is an exciting time to be a vocational teacher with the move towards V-levels in the coming years.

Whether you are an Early Career Teacher or an experienced practitioner, this role offers the chance to be part of a supportive and ambitious team. We are seeking someone with a genuine passion for Health and Social Care, who can bring the curriculum to life with real-world context and is excited to support pupils to achieve exceptional outcomes in vocational courses.

What the school offers its staff

Professional Development

The Academy has a tradition of innovation in education and pedagogy. The opportunity for teachers to not only make an impact on their own practice but that of colleagues across the profession is key to this success.

All teachers have professional development opportunities, designed for their career point, and department meetings are more often than not given over to the development and refining of practice rather than housekeeping.

Early Career Teachers benefit from a programme led by members of the Senior Leadership Team, there is an Early Professional Development Programme for second year teachers and through leadership opportunities across the Academy there is a culture of pushing those aspiring middle and senior leaders to reach their goal.

The Academy has a tradition of growing its own future middle and senior leaders.

In addition to competitive salaries, subscription to the Teachers' Pension Scheme and for Support Staff the Local Government Pension Scheme, Southfields Academy has a great deal to offer those that work here.

Staff are automatically enrolled as members of the Aspire Centre which is the Academy's onsite sports centre and adult learning facility. Staff can use the fitness suite and the swimming pool during supervised sessions before the school day begins and after school.

Staff are provided with tea and coffee during break time and there is a designated staff counter in the dining room at which staff can purchase food at cost price during the school day.

The Academy has a private day nursery available at a discount to all Academy Staff, subject to spaces being available.
