Health Care Assistant job summary

The Health Care Assistant (HCA) plays a vital role in supporting pupils with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a specialist school setting. This role focuses on the coordination, organisation and safe delivery of medical and personal care, ensuring that pupils’ health, dignity and wellbeing are consistently upheld throughout the school day.

Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, specialist nursing team, therapists and class staff, the HCA oversees medical intake processes, maintains accurate care plans, coordinates first aid systems and supports the delivery of intimate care. The role also involves liaising with families, monitoring medical documentation and ensuring staff are appropriately trained and confident in implementing care procedures.

This is a non-clinical, coordination-focused position requiring strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work sensitively within a complex SEND environment. The successful candidate will be committed to safeguarding, effective communication and delivering care with professionalism, respect and compassion.
