de Stafford School is looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to play a key role in supporting student learning, delivering targeted interventions, and contributing to the wider success of our inclusive school community.
Your Opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to take a key role within de Stafford School’s specialist resource base (SRB) for students with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). You will be responsible for overseeing the holistic needs of up to 13 students with EHCPs, delivering targeted interventions, supporting their progress both within the SRB and in mainstream lessons, and working closely with staff, families, and external agencies to ensure every student thrives. This role also involves supporting other students across the school with SLCN and contributing to the ongoing development of inclusive practice.
What we are looking for
- A good general education, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C or above).
- Ideally, a Level 4 HLTA qualification and/or Level 3 ELKLAN qualification.
- Strong knowledge of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and their impact on learning.
- Experience with evidence-based SLCN strategies and planning tailored interventions.
- Confidence in using assessment data to track progress and inform next steps for learners.
- Ability to set meaningful targets, monitor progress, and communicate effectively with families and professionals.
- Competence in maintaining SEND records in line with the Code of Practice.
- Good IT skills, particularly in using Word and Excel.
- A calm, professional, and empathetic communicator who builds strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people with SLCN.
- A flexible, proactive team player with strong time management and the ability to work independently.
About de Stafford School
de Stafford is an 11-16 comprehensive school located in Caterham, Surrey which joined GLF Schools MAT in December 2016. The school has a PAN of 180 students per year group. The school serves predominantly the local Caterham community with the majority of students residing within the CR3 catchment area.

The Details
Start Date: 1st Sept 2025
Salary: GLF Associate - Specialist | Point 1-16 (£26,272-£28,894) - dependent on experience
Actual Salary: £21,973.82 to £24,166.85 - dependent on experience
Hours of work: 8:15 – 15:45 (35hrs) - term time only
