Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Level 3

Actual Annual Salary: £19,526 - £21,302 (Based on hours and working weeks)

Full Time Equivalent Salary: £30,963 - £33,779 (CLF Grade D) - based on 37 hours per week, all year round.

Contract Type: Permanent, Term Time Only, plus Inset days.

Hours: Part-time 27.25 hours per week, Tuesday – Friday.

Additional Information: Working Pattern: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:15am – 3:15pm, Wednesday 8:15am – 4:30pm (30 minutes for lunch)

Start: 1 September 2025.

Summerhill Academy are looking for a skilled Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to complement the work of teachers by taking responsibility for developing and delivering agreed learning activities under an appropriate system of supervision. This may involve planning, preparing and delivering learning activities or being responsible for specific provision for individuals, groups and whole classes.

As a successful HLTA you will:

  • undertake specified work, including delivering lessons to small groups or whole classes on a regular basis within an agreed system of supervision and pre-determined framework. 
  • Play a significant role in the educational, personal and social development of designated students, advancing learning under the direction and guidance of relevant colleagues (e.g. the Principal, SENCO and class teachers.)
  • Support students in accessing the curriculum, engaging with their learning and achieving their full potential by employing relevant strategies and techniques developed as a result of significant experience, specialist knowledge, skill and expertise.
  • Deliver measurable impact on student attainment as well as social and emotional well-being, the benefits of which are likely to extend beyond the individual student or class in order to have a wider positive impact.
  • Support, coach or manage other colleagues to develop their practice.

About you:

You will:

  • understand classroom roles and responsibilities and how a teaching assistant supports students in their learning.
  • Advanced/specialist knowledge of the required areas of the national curriculum and other related learning programmes.
  • Good literacy and numeracy competency evidenced by Maths and English at grade C or above, or equivalent experience
  • Gained HLTA status or equivalent qualification or demonstrate to operate at this level
  • have strong interpersonal skills, in particular with the ability to demonstrate empathy and active listening.
  • have good planning and organisational skills, specifically with regard to learning activities and support materials.
  • be someone with a keen interest in working with children and commitment to inclusion and acceptance of all.
