Higher Level Teaching Assistant job summary

The Role

Working closely alongside our teachers, you'll help pupils become confident, independent learners who stay focused and engaged.

Day to day, you will:

  • Planning, preparing and delivering engaging learning activities, both to the whole class and to small groups or individuals needing targeted support
  • Monitoring, assessing and recording pupils' progress and development
  • Leading the classroom in the teacher's absence, keeping learning consistent and on track
  • Supporting effective classroom management alongside the class teacher
  • Working with teachers to design and deliver individualised plans for pupils with special educational needs

Above all, you'll help create a classroom where every child feels included, supported, and able to succeed.

About You

You're passionate about education and driven to help every child reach their full potential. You bring energy, organisation, and self-motivation to everything you do, along with the communication skills to build genuine rapport with children and parents/carers alike. Strong literacy and numeracy skills are a must, as is a real commitment to making learning irresistible — while staying flexible enough to adapt your approach to each child's needs.

You'll also be professional, trustworthy, and committed to developing your own practice, with a good understanding of the importance of confidentiality.

Ideally, you'll hold an NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants/HLTA qualification (or equivalent) — or be working towards one — with experience across the primary curriculum, including supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

  • A dedicated, professional, and determined staff team
  • Highly motivated, happy children who are keen to learn and grow
  • A genuine, whole-school commitment to staff wellbeing
  • Excellent resources and vibrant, well-equipped teaching spaces
