Higher Level Teaching Assistant - Arabic Specialist job summary

Join King’s Liverpool. A school moving fast, with purpose.

King’s Leadership Academy Liverpool is entering an exciting new chapter. Since Easter 2023, the academy has seen rapid improvement in attendance, behaviour, outcomes and wider enrichment. We are a growing community of over 950 students, built on clear routines, high expectations and the belief that every child can succeed.

We are now seeking an exceptional Higher Level Teaching Assistant - Arabic Specialist to support high-quality provision across the academy and deliver engaging Arabic language learning, including support for GCSE students.

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who combines strong classroom presence with warmth, subject expertise and a genuine belief in young people. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and senior leaders to help students access ambitious learning, develop confidence and achieve well.

About the role

As our HLTA Arabic Specialist, you will support teachers and the SENDCo in delivering high-quality provision for pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities. You will provide targeted support to individuals, small groups and, where appropriate, whole classes, helping students to access the curriculum, grow in independence and experience success.

A key part of the role will be delivering effective Arabic lessons and intervention for GCSE students, supporting the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. You will help students build confidence and fluency in Arabic, prepare for examinations and develop a deeper appreciation of Arabic language and culture. The recruitment guide identifies Arabic specialist duties including planning GCSE Arabic learning, assessing progress, preparing students for examinations and contributing to enrichment linked to Arabic language learning.

You will also contribute to lesson planning, prepare resources, use effective behaviour management strategies and support a positive, calm and purposeful learning environment. The role may include supervising whole classes or, where appropriate, leading learning during short-term teacher absence.

We are looking for someone who:
  • Has strong Arabic subject knowledge and the ability to support GCSE-level learning
  • Can deliver engaging Arabic lessons to individuals, small groups and whole classes
  • Has experience working with children or young people in an educational setting
  • Can build positive relationships with students, staff and families
  • Is confident supporting pupils with a range of learning needs, including SEND
  • Has strong literacy, numeracy, organisation and communication skills
  • Can remain calm, consistent and professional under pressure
  • Models the ASPIRE values: Aspiration, Self-awareness, Professionalism, Integrity, Respect and Endeavour
  • Shares our belief that every child can succeed, and every adult has a role in making that belief real

The person specification asks for an NVQ Level 4 Teaching Assistant qualification, A Level or equivalent, GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above and experience of planning and delivering learning activities. Additional subject or SEN qualifications are desirable.
