Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for ROOSE (6668) job summary

Lady Lumley’s Academy are looking to appoint a HLTA for ROOSE (Ryedale Out Of School Education) to join our team in October 2026 on a permanent, part time basis.

Do you want to work for a Trust that is transforming educational outcomes for students in some of the most deprived areas in the North of England? If so, this could be the role for you.

Your new role

The role is permanent and will be 32 hours per week. Typical working hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3.15pm with a 4pm finish on a Tuesday (CPD time).

Are you resilient, resourceful and looking for a role that goes beyond standard classroom support? Here at ROOSE, we provide a dedicated environment for young people who face barriers to mainstream education. As our new HLTA, you will join a tight-knit and dedicated team with a Centre Leader, Administrator and Teaching Assistant. We seek an exceptional HLTA who thrives on building meaningful relationships with our students, unlocking potential in disengaged learners and taking a collaborative approach to delivering tailored learning.

Please see the attached job description on our website for the essential criteria and more information on the role.

If you feel you have the necessary skills and experience required for this position, then we would very much like to hear from you.

About Us

ROOSE (Ryedale Out of School Education) is a specialised Alternative Provision commissioned by North Yorkshire Council. It is structured as a shared collaborative provision between the four secondary schools serving the Ryedale region:

  • Lady Lumley’s School
  • Malton School
  • Norton College
  • Ryedale School

ROOSE exists to provide a tailored, off-site educational pathway for students across Ryedale who face significant barriers to learning in a standard mainstream setting. Rather than acting as a separate, detached institution, ROOSE works as an extension of these partner schools to offer targeted academic, emotional, and social intervention

At ROOSE we pride ourselves on providing a calm, highly structured setting with significantly reduced numbers compared to a typical secondary school classroom.

Focusing heavily on rebuilding self-esteem, restoring confidence in learning, and either supporting a gradual reintegration back into mainstream lessons or guiding students toward post-16 vocational and educational pathways.

Working closely with North Yorkshire Council’s Inclusion and SEND Hubs, social care teams, and pastoral leaders from all four partnership schools to maintain a joined-up approach for every pupil.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, tailored learning activities suited to the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students.
  • Work collaboratively with the Centre Leader and Teaching Assistant to plan daily routines, interventions, and student support strategies.
  • Deliver targeted interventions in core subjects, functional skills, and personal development.
  • Lead sessions and cover classes in the absence of the Centre Leader, maintaining a calm, safe, and purposeful learning environment.
  • Build strong, trauma-informed, and trusting relationships with young people displaying complex SEMH needs or challenging behaviours.
  • Monitor, record, and report on student progress, contributing to EHCP reviews and multi-agency progress meetings.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of our small centre, fostering a supportive, positive culture for both staff and pupils.
