Higher Level Teaching Assistant job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified higher level teaching assistant (HLTA) to contribute to the continuous development of our well-resourced provision, where there will be plenty of developmental opportunities. We are looking for an experienced HLTA to work at Locking Primary School, Weston-super-Mare, who can demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of young children’s development needs, common learning and behavioural difficulties. The role will also include PPA cover in a range of your groups.

Hours: 32 hours and 30 minutes per week, 8.30 - 15.30 Monday to Friday, term-time only

Start date: 1 September 2026

Interview date: 20 May 2026

You will be working within a learning framework set by the headteacher, provide teaching and learning support for the educational and personal needs of pupils, which ensures that they have equality of access to opportunities to learn and develop.

When required, you will supervise the teaching of classes planned by, or with, the class teacher. In the case of sickness cover, planning may not be available in the first instance. When acting as nominated supervisor you will be required to manage other support staff employed within the classroom environment.
