Higher Level Teaching Assistant job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant with exceptional ability to join our team at Mayplace Primary School and play a crucial role in supporting both teachers and pupils.

You will be vital in helping them become independent learners, stay focused and engaged in the tasks and lessons, help explain different tasks and activities, assist with a wide range of classroom and school-based activities, including planning and delivering engaging lessons, working with small groups or individual students to provide targeted support, and assisting with classroom management.

You will complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed-upon learning activities. This may involve planning, preparing, and delivering learning activities for the pupils, monitoring, assessing, recording, and reporting on children’s progress and development, and leading the classroom in the teacher's absence, ensuring continuity and consistency in learning.

You will also collaborate with teachers to develop and implement individualised plans for pupils with special educational needs.

Your goal is to create a positive and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive, be included, and be accepted.

About You

You will be passionate about education and dedicated to helping children achieve their full potential while ensuring all pupils are supported to do their best.

You will be trustworthy, enthusiastic, full of energy, well-organised, and self-motivated. You must have excellent numeracy and literacy skills and be passionate about making learning irresistible for children. However, you will also be able to adapt where necessary to support children’s individual needs.

You will also need to maintain confidentiality, be highly professional, and be committed to improving your own practice. Ideally, you will qualified to NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants/HLTA qualification or equivalent or are willing to work towards this qualification and have experience working with children across the primary curriculum, including those with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
