What the school offers its staff
About the department:
We are ambitious and forward thinking history department with a large uptake at GCSE and A Level. At A Level we offer History and Politics and many of our Year 13s leave us to carry on their studies in History at top universities including Oxford and Cambridge.
As a department we have an invaluable role to play in the Academy’s vision of creating a culture of tolerance and respect for others. By showing students where we have come from through the events of the past we hope to foster considerate, creative and innovative minds able to analyse and fairly judge people and events. The department is tireless in its striving to widen the experience and knowledge of the students and engages outside speakers (notably: The United States Ambassador to the U.K, Holocaust survivors, local and national politicians, people with first-hand experience of war and occupation from Israel and Palestine) and has a programme of trips and visits to bring the history being studied alive (notably: Mediaeval and Norman castles, WWI Battlefields, Auschwitz).
