About the Role

As the Attendance HLTA, you will work closely with the Attendance Team, Pastoral Leaders and Heads of Year to coordinate, plan and deliver targeted interventions that improve student attendance and engagement across the school. This is primarily an out-of-class role focused on running targeted small group and 1:1 support sessions to help students overcome barriers to attending school regularly and re-engage with their learning. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Work in close partnership with parents, carers, and external support agencies, providing regular updates on student progress and attendance improvement.
  • Plan and deliver individual and small-group intervention sessions aimed at removing barriers to school attendance, boosting confidence and supporting emotional wellbeing.
  • Use school attendance and behaviour data to identify target students, track attendance trends and monitor the overall impact of attendance support programmes.
  • Maintain accurate attendance logs and databases, contribute to attendance action plans and reviews and assist with attendance-related administration and routine audits.
  • Work in close partnership with parents, carers, and external support agencies, providing regular updates on student progress and attendance improvement.

About You

We are looking for a proactive, organised and compassionate professional who is dedicated to helping young people improve their attendance and overcome barriers to learning.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience working with young people in an educational or pastoral setting, with a strong understanding of attendance barriers and student engagement.
  • A good standard of education, including GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to confidently engage secondary students, work collaboratively with parents/carers and liaise with external support services.
  • The ability to plan effective attendance interventions and use attendance data to measure and demonstrate student progress.
  • Desirable: Recent training in attendance support strategies, family engagement, or evidence-based emotional wellbeing interventions, alongside experience with attendance tracking systems.

Everything at Mangotsfield School is based around its school
values driven by Headteacher, Hetty Blackmore. Having first
joined the school as a newly qualified teacher when she was
23 years old and returned to lead it later in her career, she is
very proud of the journey the school is on.

Mangotsfield School is proud to serve its community and has
been part of the local community since 1957. They have just
celebrated being rated as a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted (visit
March 2022).

There are wonderful resources and facilities on site, allowing
students to embrace curricular and extra-curricular
challenges from DT, art, dance, drama and a climbing wall to
name a few. There is a lot of open space, which is green and
calm. And this sense of calm is echoed in the school itself.
The school has a proud sporting history and teams have
travelled as far as Wembley to take part in national
competitions. The school is also on a mission to broaden
horizons with many co-curricular trips taking place, such as a
Year 7 trip to Slimbridge Wetlands for art research and a
Year 8 trip to Tyntesfield House to explore gothic horror
within the English curriculum.
