Longman’s Hill Community Primary School is a smaller than average primary school situated in Selby, North Yorkshire. Currently, we have approximately 210 children on roll in 7 classes (one per year group).
The school sits in spacious grounds with a large field, playground with apparatus and even a pond!
We work closely with the local community.
We offer a range of extra-curricular activities to the children including a wide range of sporting clubs and other extra curricular activities, including three residential trips in KS2.
We offer a caring, creative and stimulating environment in which the needs of every child are considered and catered for. Children’s well- being and their development of a love of lifelong learning are at the heart of everything we do. We have been successful in achieving a number of awards which reflect the quality of our curriculum, including the Healthy Schools award (Gold level summer 2021), PE Games Mark (Gold Summer 2020) and more recently the Primary Quality Science Mark (gilt level Summer 2021). We are currently working towards the Artsmark.
We operate an open door policy and welcome the views of parents and carers. The headteacher, Mrs Elcock, is outside school in the morning meeting and greeting parents and children and is always happy to chat with parents. If you wish to express your views about our school, you can do so on the Parent view website (link below).
At Longman’s Hill CP School, we are committed to providing equality for all. We understand equality to mean treating everyone with equal dignity and worth, valuing their particular characteristics such as age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation and socio-economic circumstances. We understand that people have different needs, situations and goals. Achieving equality requires the removal of discriminatory barriers which may limit what people, especially children and young people, can do and can be. We recognise that inequality can be experienced in a variety of ways, affecting progress, access to services and independence in making life’s decisions; ultimately affecting lives and creating inequality of treatment and we strive to ensure this does not happen within our school community.
As a community school, we are keen to promote cohesion and to uphold and teach our children about British Values. These are defined as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths or no faith. These values are taught through PHSCE lessons and RE. We also take opportunities to promote these values through school worship and through the delivery of a broad curriculum, in which real opportunities to explore and understand these values are sought. You can read more about our curriculum through the curriculum tab from the homepage of the website.
