HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) SEND job summary

Manor Park Primary School is a large, inclusive primary school with a strong commitment to meeting the needs of all learners. We are seeking to appoint a skilled and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work primarily with pupils with additional and complex needs.

This role is ideal for an experienced Teaching Assistant who has a passion for SEND and is ready to step into a more specialist, leadership-focused role, as well as for existing HLTAs looking to develop further in SEND provision.

Our Values

We are incredibly proud of our school and the children who come here to learn and soar to success. Our school, built in 1950, is a well established part of the community and has a heritage which sees ex pupils returning as parents and even grandparents. Our core mission is to offer our wonderful children outstanding teaching and learning experiences and the very best opportunities, in and beyond the classroom. Learning at Manor Park is innovative, fun and exciting, capturing pupils’ interests and extending their knowledge and skills.

We aim to raise aspirations, inspire a life-long love of learning and create memories to last a lifetime. As you explore the website, you will see the range of opportunities that our children have, and the local, national and global links we have forged. We are particularly proud of our Manor Park University which extends and enriches our curriculum offer. In addition, our excellent pastoral care ensures that all children are nurtured and thrive in a supportive and caring environment.

What is the job role?

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting children with high levels of need and will:

  • Lead learning for individuals and small groups of pupils with SEND, including those with complex needs
  • Plan, deliver and adapt learning to meet individual needs, working closely with teachers and the SENCo
  • Implement and support programmes designed by external professionals (e.g. educational psychology, speech and language therapy)
  • Support pupils’ emotional regulation, independence and engagement in learning
  • Contribute to the assessment, monitoring and review of pupils’ progress
  • Work collaboratively as part of a wider inclusion and pastoral team

While the role is SEND-focused, there may be opportunities to support learning more widely across the school, depending on experience and need.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a calm, patient and flexible approach to supporting children
  • Is reflective, proactive and keen to develop specialist SEND practice
  • Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with staff and families

HLTA status is desirable but not essential; this role may suit a strong Teaching Assistant looking to step up, with appropriate support and development provided.

What we are looking for

  • A supportive and experienced leadership and inclusion team
  • Opportunities to develop specialist SEND skills and knowledge
  • A strong culture of inclusion, teamwork and professional trust
  • The chance to make a meaningful difference to children with complex needs

Our workforce data shows that men and people from minority ethnic backgrounds are under-represented; we encourage applicants from these backgrounds to apply.  This does not prevent individuals with or without other protected characteristics as set out within the Equality Act 2010 from applying for this post.

A visit to the school is welcome & can be arranged by emailing admin@manorpark.coventry.sch.uk or calling 02476 501736.

Interviews: Wednesday 11th March 2026
